As always, this was intended as a desktop background, and it should get a full-view =). I did this back in April of this year (2004) using my digital camera, Z Brush, & The GIMP.

In case you're curious about the digital camera part, the reflection textures on the object are two pictures I took, unmodified. One of a red rose, the other of a sunset. I really like how the lighting worked with the red from the rose.

Reflection is very well done. There is something weird on the innards of the wheel... They seem to be out of perspective.

I'd like to be able to use the GIMP like that. How did you learn?

Thanks. As for perspective, it was a 3D Gear shape done in ZBrush (a demo of some commercial software)... so techinically the perspective is mathematically accurate. But, if it doesn't look right, that's not a matter of math. ;)

Unfortunately GIMP was mostly used for preprocessing of textures, and post processing of output... so most of the real work was in ZBrush.
